Second Degree
Students are pursuing a second degree when they have previously earned a baccalaureate degree or are pursuing two different degrees.
Second Degree Examples
- A student has earned a baccalaureate degree from another accredited institution and is pursuing a baccalaureate degree at Clayton State University.
- A student is pursuing a Bachelor of Arts degree with a major in History (first degree) and a Bachelor of Science degree with a major in mathematics (second degree).
- A student earned a Bachelor of Business Administration with a major in Accounting from Clayton State University. The student returns to Clayton State to pursue a Bachelor of Business Administration with a major in Management. Because the student already has a degree, this would qualify as a second degree.
Students seeking a second degree must meet the following requirements.
- All university graduation requirements including but not limited to GPA, Legislative, and Core IMPACTS.
- Satisfy all curricular requirements for the second degree, including prerequisites and skill requirements.
- Students seeking a second degree of a different or same type must meet the additional residency requirements consists of a minimum of 25% of the total semester credit hours required for the degree in residence at Clayton State. Residence hours must apply directory to the requirements of the second degree; free electives to not count toward residency.
- Coursework used to satisfy the requirements of a previously awarded degree may not be applied toward the residency for a second or subsequent degree.
