Undergraduate Residency Requirement
Residency refers to courses (including online courses) offered by Clayton State University. Transfer courses (including correspondence courses, on-line courses, transient courses, or cross-registration courses) are not considered to be in residence. Credit by examination or experience is not considered to be in residence even if the examination was taken at Clayton State. (In this context, “residence” has nothing to do with a student’s residence for fee payment purposes.)

Students pursuing an associate degree must complete a minimum of 25% of the total semester credit hours required for the degree in residence at Clayton State University (e.g., 15 semester credit hours for a degree requiring 60 total semester hours). Of the minimum resident coursework required:

Of the minimum resident coursework required:
- A minimum of 21 of the 30 resident credit hours musts be upper-division coursework applied toward degree requirements other than free elective.
Only resident coursework applied toward degree requirements may be used to satisfy the baccalaureate-level minimum residency requirement. Note: Individual academic programs may establish additional residency requirements, which must also be satisfied for graduation.
Resident Coursework Beyond Degree Requirements
Resident coursework may include courses that are not applied toward degree requirements, such as excess credits, repeated coursework, or exploratory coursework, provided the coursework is delivered by Clayton State University. Resident coursework not applied toward degree requirements may count as resident credit beyond the minimum residency requirement but may not be applied to meet the minimum residency threshold.
